Blue Shed 2017
I will be showing new chairs at this years Blue Shed 2017 exhibition, open weekends and bank holidays in May.
My Blue Shed 2017 exhibition reflects on ongoing fascination with the traditional Windsor chair. Windsor chairs are classics of English country furniture dating back to the early 18th century. They are traditionally built with solid wooden seats into which the turned chair legs and back are round-tenoned. The solid seats are carved into a saddle shape for comfort. Structurally they are extremely strong, every time you sit on one you are strengthening the ‘leg to seat’ joint which helps to explain why some are still in daily use after 300 years. This perfect combination of function and form encourages endless contemporary reinterpretations.
